University of Aberdeen Natural History Centre

Website nat.hist@abdn.ac.uk
Classification Educational, Zoo
DescriptionUsing the university’s wonderful Cruickshank Botanic Garden and fantastic Zoology Museum the centre aims to inspire everyone in the living environment.

Our hands-on education room also lets visitors see nature in close-up! Come and meet Erica the tarantula, the gorgeous fire salamanders and handle anything from spiky monkey puzzle leaves to huge skulls, snake skins and whale bones!

The Centre is open Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm. Free admission.

If you are intending to visit between 9am and 3pm then please call in advance, T – 01224 493288. School classes use our classroom during these times, which means the room may be unavailable for family visits.

At the moment, the Centre is home to some great african fruit beetles, Erica the tarantula and some gorgeous fire salamanders, stick insects and garden snails. As well as these living animals, there are lots of things to look at and touch – from hippo teeth, shells and big bugs to nests, skulls and otters!

While you are here, have a look around the two floors of the Zoology Museum - the upper gallery is home to many of the birds found in Britain, while the main part of the museum in the basement, houses hundreds of animals from Britain and abroad.
