Description17th-century Dutch-style house, perched on the Berkshire Downs with spectacular views and walks. Ashdown House (also known as Ashdown Park) is a 17th century house located near Lambourn in Berkshire, England (Grid reference SU281820). It stands in the civil parish of Ashbury, which is now in Oxfordshire. It has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1956.Ashdown House is famous for its associations with Elizabeth of Bohemia, the sister of Charles I. Along with his house at Hamstead Marshall, it is said that the Earl of Craven built Ashdown for her, but she died before construction began.Nearby are a large group of sarsen stones and Alfred's Castle, an Iron Age hill fort.
