This walled garden has been known as the “Spider Garden” ever since the ornamental wrought iron Spider’s Web gate was made in 1936 by Eric Stevenson. As you enter the garden you will see formal herbaceous borders bursting with colour during the summer months. [more]

The upper reaches of the Waveney around the picturesque market town of Beccles are rarely busy. The original head of navigation was at Bungay, still accessible to light craft while the limit for larger boats is Geldeston. Water skiing is permitted on the Waveney at certain times in specified locations: a permit is required.

Every part of the garden was designed entirely by ourselves as were all the various buildings. We have used no outside help and our sole aim has been to try and enhance the setting of our home.

The lanes that lead here go nowhere else, and Hales Hall is at the hub of South Norfolk, with many interesting places to visit. The riverside market towns of Loddon, Beccles and Bungay are all just minutes away, and the ideal places to hire a river boat, try your hand at a spot of fishing, relax with a round of golf or just while away the time rummaging through the local antique shops.
